Help plant trees at The Steel Yard Sat. 10/4

The Steel Yard will be planting 18 trees on October 4th!

We are the FIRST non-residential neighborhood to receive trees in the history of this program-pretty exciting.

We are still looking for VOLUNTEERS to help on Planting Day (holes will be dug the afternoon before).
I would love to count you among the volunteers (and I hope you’ll bring a friend!).
In the hope that you are going to say yes, I include more info below.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND!!!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

WHEN:
SATURDAY 4th begins at 8 am (sharp!) PLEASE ARRIVE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES EARLY
(we should be done in about 2 hours)

RAINDATE: ONLY in the event of torrential downpour and lightning will the planting be cancelled-the rain date is October 25.

WHERE:
27 SIMS at the Steel Yard gates

WHAT TO WEAR:
Clothes you dont mind getting dirty

Cyclist run over by semi

Nick Jackson was riding in the bike lane on Allens Ave Friday
afternoon (9/12) and got hit by a semi, shattering his pelvic girdle. He had an
operation yesterday afternoon that appears to have been successful, and he
should be on his feet again in three or four months. Please keep him and
all two-wheeled creatures in your thoughts. And watch out for large
motorized pieces of metal rushing at you as you pedal around.

Panel on Transportation Funding

GOVERNOR’S BLUE RIBBON PANEL ON TRANSPORTATION FUNDING TO HOST FOUR-PART SERIES OF PUBLIC MEETINGS

First One to Be Held in Lincoln on Monday, September 15

Rhode Island, like many states across the nation, is facing a transportation funding crisis. That is why this past March, Governor Carcieri established the Blue Ribbon Panel on Transportation Funding to explore the State’s current transportation funding structure.

Since its inception, the Panel has been reviewing the State’s transportation funding structure, funding needs, as well as future funding options. The Panel is now looking for public input and is therefore announcing four public meetings that will begin on Monday, September 15. The meetings, which will be held at 7 p.m., will provide the general public the opportunity to voice their opinions on the State’s current funding structure and offer suggestions for improvement.

The Blue Ribbon Panel Public Meeting schedule is as follows:

Schedule:
Monday, September 15, 7 p.m., Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) Flanagan Campus, 1762 Louisquisset Pike, Lincoln.
Wednesday, September 17, 7 p.m., CCRI Newport County, One John H. Chafee Boulevard, Newport.
Tuesday, September 23, 7 p.m., University of Rhode Island (URI), Kingston.
Thursday, September 25, 7 p.m., Rhode Island College (RIC), 600 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence.
