We’re Hiring!

openRecycle-a-Bike is looking for our next full-time Americorps VISTA to help out the collective!

Start Date: July 14th

Description
The Recycle-a-Bike VISTA member will work with a group of committed volunteers and RAB coordinators to build capacity, expand programming, foster community partnerships and generate institutional sustainability. The member will also work collaboratively with the program’s constituency, existing environmental, bike advocacy and social justice organizations, to identify ways to move the target community beyond poverty and into full potential.

Qualifications
-Dedicated to community engagement and building strong communities
-Good communication skills and ability to work both in a collective and independently
-Maturity and sensitivity to those struggling with issues of poverty
-Good computer skills and a reasonable knowledge of software or a willingness to learn
-Ideally, proficient in Spanish

Recycle-a-Bike is looking for your help to get back into action. We’ve got the space, the tools, the bikes, and even a full-time VISTA. All we need is you.

In attempt to overhaul Recycle-a-Bike, we are seeking new collective members, committed volunteers, and interested community organizers such as yourself to expand the organization.

If you are interested in seeing more bikes on the streets of Providence and providing greater access to the tools and skills to maintain your bike, we hope to see you at this event.

Come out, bring your friends, and help build a better biking future!

Learn Your Bike!

bike_repairs_morley_t640Learn how to fix your bike this weekend at the Basic Bike Maintenance: Weekend Workshop, Saturday and Sunday April 18th and 19th, 10 am to 4:30 pm with Jackson!

The class will consist of 2 sessions covering basic bike anatomy, brake and derailleur adjustment, wheel maintenance, bearings, preventative maintenance, emergency repairs and basic safety skills. Each class includes a teaching session with hands-on instruction and time to work on your own bicycle with guidance from the instructor. If time allows, the course will also feature a hands-on wheel truing demonstration. No previous experience necessary.

If you can’t make it that weekend, we’re also having weekend classes May 9th and 10th (special Mother’s Day class), June 20th and 21st, and July 18th and 19th.
