2/22/18 – Beyond Bike Basics: Suspension Systems

This 2-hour class is a great fit for anyone who rides a mountain bike but feels dazzled by the mystery that is the front suspension system. We will walk you through diagnostics, disassembly, reassembly and adjustment while introducing you to the many part and tools used to repair fork suspension systems. The goal is to leave you feeling comfortable enough to examine and repair your bike’s front suspension at home or at our open shop.

September Build-A-Bike Starting Sun. September 10th!

Our next Build-A-Bike class of 2017 starts this Sunday, September 10th from 5:30- 8:30pm. To sign up, visit September Build-A-Bike

Build-a-Bike is a hands-on 6-session, 18-hour course that goes into great depth of the most common repairs that are performed in the bike shop. Curious to see the ball bearings inside your hub and headset? Wondering how cable tension affects derailleur performance when you’re shifting? Come on in and find out! This is a bike mechanics class for all skill levels- no experience required.

Class Dates:
Sundays 9/10, 9,17, 9/24 5:30- 8:30pm
Thursdays 9/14, 9/21, 9/28 5:30- 8:30pm

Class Content:
– Bike parts and tools overview
– Bike assessment & diagnosis
– Patching a flat, replacing tubes and tires
– Overhauling hubs
– Wheel truing
– Overhauling bottom brackets and headsets
– Adjusting brake systems
– Adjusting shift systems and derailleurs
Classes in this course build on one another, so please try to attend all or as many sessions as you can to stay up to speed with the content.

Build-a-Bike is very hands-on, using bike tools, equipment and parts under the supervision of our knowledgeable and skilled mechanics. We, however, advise against working on your own bike during course time. We have a full stock of donated bikes to work on and would love for you to practice and make all of your mistakes on our bikes (instead of yours)! If you finish assignments early you are welcome to use the extra time to work on your own bike.
