Open Shop!

Tuesdays 6-9 pm in the Bike Room at The Steel Yard
$5/hour or $20 for a monthly membership

Open Shop is the time to come in to repair your bicycle. You will have access to all our tools, a stand, as well as a skilled mechanic to assist you. We have three work stations, a truing stand, as well as some minor replacement parts. We suggest that if you need new parts that you bring them with you or talk to us ahead of time to see if we have what you need, as this is not the best time to find used parts. Stand time can also be earned with volunteer hours (one hour working for one hour at Open Shop), you must volunteer the hours prior to Open Shop, please e-mail us to set up a time to volunteer.

Call to Organizers Thursday 4/23, 7:00 PM

April 23, 2009
7:00 PMto9:00 PM

Recycle-a-Bike is looking for your help to get back into action. We’ve got the space, the tools, the bikes, and even a full-time VISTA. All we need is you.

In attempt to overhaul Recycle-a-Bike, we are seeking new collective members, committed volunteers, and interested community organizers such as yourself to expand the organization.

If you are interested in seeing more bikes on the streets of Providence and providing greater access to the tools and skills to maintain your bike, we hope to see you at this event.

Come out, bring your friends, and help build a better biking future!

Thursday, 4/23. 7:00 – 9:00 PM

at Direct Action for Rights and Equality (DARE)

340 Lockwood St. Providence, RI 02907 (map)

Check out the “Get Involved” page for a better idea of how to get plugged in.

Beehive Collective coming to Providence

Word has it that Juan Martinez from the Beehive Collective is also a big time bike builder – stereobikes, trailers, pedicab rigs – when he is not making posters or touring.

Juan Bee will be collaborating with the Office of Public Engagement as part of our Office presentation at the What We Do event. Large scale posters will also be on view and for sale.

It’s springtime. That means a few things.
1. You no longer have an excuse to not ride a bicycle in New England.
2. We have a lot of preparation to do at Recycle-a-Bike.
3. We’re going to be having regular work sessions Saturdays noon to 4 at The Steel Yard (pending fair weather), while enjoying day-old bread and pastries generously donated by Seven Stars Bakery.

So come lend a hand. You can trade in volunteer hours to earn bikes and/or parts. But note, if there is water and/or electricity coming from the sky, the work day is canceled.
